Outside of work, Jed enjoys spending time with his family, supporting the arts, exploring the outdoors, and researching his Swedish family history. He has a degree in design from Brigham Young University and a master's degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University.

Backstory is searching for an Operations Manager to execute Jed’s vision by running the business day-to-day and managing the team to give Jed the freedom to focus on growth. The responsibilities for this job include optimizing and automating workflows, setting up systems, managing projects, and handling client relations, including managing money coming in and going out. The ultimate goal is to profitably scale the business without compromising quality.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

🧾 Creating and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for everything the business does, based on “The Backstory Way.”

📑 Setting up and managing client projects in Monday, to achieve the company’s profitability and client satisfaction goals.

📊 Managing client relationships to ensure they always know what to expect and where they are in the process.

🗓️ Automating repetitive tasks to free up time for more strategic, value-added work.

Working Hours ⏰: This is a full-time position involving 40 hours per week on a 1099 basis. The person will work with the founder, who is based in the Salt Lake City, Utah, area in the U.S. (Mountain Time zone). The ideal candidate should be available to work with the founder from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. or Noon, Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the candidate can work on their own schedule, asynchronously, with the founder and other team members.

To excel in this role at Backstory, the ideal candidate should have:

✅ Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, in English. They need to express themselves clearly and without mistakes, especially in client emails.

✅ The ability to communicate confidently and respectfully with the team and clients.

✅ The capability to use tools like Calendly, Monday.com, Quickbooks Online, Slack, the Google Suite (including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms, and Google Slides), Active Campaign, and LinkedIn for targeted marketing campaigns.

✅ The skill to manage various tasks simultaneously, including overseeing freelancers and ensuring they deliver their work in a timely, quality way.

✅ The ability to use Zapier to automate repetitive tasks and streamline workflows for a better team member and client experience.

✅ Be professional by being punctual for meetings, proactive in communication, and creating meeting agendas and summaries.

✅ Be approachable and skilled at building relationships.

✅ Be accurate by providing correct information, name and numbers the first time.

✅ Be quick learners who complete tasks thoroughly and promptly and report back without reminders.

✅ Be curious and enjoy learning new things.

✅ Be committed to personal and professional growth by remembering instructions and learning from mistakes.

✅ Experience with Account-Based Management (ABM) marketing on LinkedIn.

✅ Managing relationships with SEO and website partners.

✅ Running the company's LinkedIn account.

✅ Proficiency in using Zapier for task automation.
