Van Patten Media Inc., a leading developer of custom WordPress websites, plugins, and web applications, is hiring a freelance WordPress QA (Quality Assurance) Tester to help maintain client websites on an ongoing basis.
You will be responsible for running weekly WordPress updates in a local development enviornment, running automation scripts to verify successful updates, and deploying the updated sites to production.
We will provide full training on our update process and the technology we use (Composer, Vagrant, Capistrano, etc.) but basic experience with Git and the command line will be necessary.
Because of the heavy reliance on terminal and Unix-based applications, you must be using Mac OS or a Unix-based OS (Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora, etc) to be considered for this job.
Requirements:
- Must be able to run Mac OS or a Unix-based OS
- Must be comfortable with terminal
- Experience with Git
Desired (but optional) skills:
- Intermediate-to-advanced familiarity with WordPress
- Experience with Vagrant, Composer, Capistrano
- A basic understanding of unit testing, integration testing, acceptance testing, etc.
- Comfort debugging issues and filing bug reports based on broken updates
Very optional, but would-be-great-to-have skills:
- JavaScript/Node development experience (for writing automated tests with CasperJS)
- PHP development experience (for writing unit tests with PHPUnit)
Miscellaneous:
- Attention to detail
- Familiarity with Slack and Google Docs
- Deadline-oriented, reliable worker
- 3–5 available hours per week
Software development experience is not required, but we will adjust the requirements of the job to accomodate your skills!
