About Us

Savage Digital is a web and software development company based in Los Angeles, though the team is fully remote. We partner with creative advertising agencies to build websites, apps and games for clients such as Disney/Marvel, Oculus, Red Bull, Sony, Riot Games, Microsoft, National Geographic, DreamWorks, Warner Bros. and more.

Our core business is agency projects, which are usually beautiful, flashy and creative. We need great frontend developers who care about design and like to get their hands dirty in the DOM for projects like these.

More recently, we have expanded into building products/platforms and business optimization software. This requires more architectural, scalability, backend and business problem solving skills.

We're hiring for both roles but all of our engineers are fullstack.

We typically build projects with React, NodeJS, PHP (Laravel), WordPress. Some Ruby and Python also gets thrown around. We're open to whatever stack makes the most sense to the goal of getting the job done in time, while creating something end-users and clients will think is awesome.

For our WordPress projects, we're starting to use GatsbyJS which turns run-of-the-mill WordPress sites into super-fast static sites, which is great for users, and is a more interesting development challenge than standard WordPress builds.

The Role

We're looking for a person with the right blend of experience in both front-end and back-end development, a love for coding and learning, and the ability to work in a fully-remote environment. A high-energy person and strong communicator who can join an expert team and work remotely with limited direction.

On the front-end, we almost always build with React, but are always trying out new tools.

On the back-end, some of our projects have involved more advanced features such as doing computer vision analysis on Google Street View panoramic images, however, our more typical requirements for back-end work are more standard CRUD apps. MVC and database design fundamentals are a requirement. DevOps experience is a major plus.

General Requirements

• Passion and aptitude for producing high quality digital work
• Excellent written English skills (for communication on Slack)
• Time Zone: PST
• Minimum 4 years experience as a front-end or full-stack developer

Required skills/experience:

• Strong understanding of modern JavaScript concepts
• 3+ years web development experience
• 2+ years of JavaScript experience
• 1+ years of server-side experience, including building CRUD apps utilizing MVC frameworks such as Django, Rails or Laravel
• 1+ year of React / AngularJs or other SPA experience
• HTML, CSS, SASS/LESS, Babel, Yarn, Webpack, Gulp
• Fluency in Git, GitHub, GitHub Flow and source code management concepts

Bonus skills/experience:

• Social Media APIs (Facebook, Twitter, etc)
• DevOps experience (Experience with AWS, DigitalOcean, Docker, etc)
• WordPress experience
• React-Native experience
• Previous contract and remote work experience
