Front-end developer with simple design chops [CLOSED]

Van Patten Media Inc., a boutique web studio for creative and innovative companies, is looking for design-oriented front-end developers to join our team (as contractors) to assist with a variety of web projects.

While the role is primarily centred around front-end development (HTML/CSS/JS), we are hoping to find someone who is also comfortable with designing small components (usually with the larger design themes already in place, or similar designs available as references). The more design experience the better, but it doesn't have to be extensive!

Some of the technical requirements:

• Strong experience with HTML5 semantic markup
• Strong experience with CSS and Sass (SCSS syntax)
• Experience with OOCSS and BEM-style organisation
• Comfort with JS for basic DOM manipulation, simple animations, and general UX ‘sugar’ (Vanilla JS preferred; jQuery familiarity is great too)

In terms of workflow:

• Familiarity with Gulp and the Gulp ecosystem
• Extensive experience with Git
• Some basic knowledge of Vagrant, PHP, and/or Ruby is helpful but not necessary
• Experience with WordPress and/or Vanilla Forums is also helpful but not necessary
• Previous experience converting PSDs to HTML is helpful but not necessary
• We use Slack internally, but we can teach you the basics if you’re unfamiliar

We’re really hoping to find someone who’s eager to learn and grow as part of a larger team. Ultimately, you can be as independent or integrated with the team as you'd like, but will be expected to provide status reports every day that you work.

We’re expecting around 10 hours per week to start; depending on your efficiency and ability to take on more, that could increase to 20 hours per week.
