WordPress Developer [CLOSED]

Part Time 20.00 - 30.00 USD Type: Hourly

HTML5 CSS3 SASS PHP English - speaking English - writing

Reaction Digital is a fully remote WordPress development and branding agency based out of Alberta, Canada. For more than 15 years, we have been helping our clients make big things happen online. We have clients all over Western Canada and the US.

We love WordPress here at Reaction. And not the Beaver Builder plugin-fueled franken-sites you see from your run-of-the-mill agency. We build WordPress sites with custom themes (usually based on the Understrap framework), CPTs, ACF, custom Gutenberg blocks, minimal plugins (you know, the usuals), and more recently, we’ve been creating some pretty awesome web apps and services using WordPress.

Our work spans from small (but mighty) marketing websites to publishing, ecommerce, and custom online platforms… all built with WordPress.

We are looking for a WordPress developer to join our team of freelancers to help us to build new websites and work to constantly innovate our clients' live websites.

In this role, you will:

  • Build WordPress sites using a standardized base theme maintained by Reaction
  • Make extensive updates to existing WordPress websites
  • Customize the back-end templates and functions to account for any specific requirements
  • Implement Figma designs to produce consistently styled and tested front end
  • Work independently within a pre-defined timeline to produce a tested and stable final product
  • Work with existing websites, themes, and frameworks to implement new design elements and functionality
  • Report to the Dev Team Lead and interact with the Project Director, Project leads, Designers, other developers and the QA team.

During the first few weeks, you’ll learn how to use Reaction’s base WordPress theme, templates and plugins, and learn more about the company’s internal communication systems. You’ll also work on small client projects to learn how the team communicates and works together, eventually building a sample site.

This is a part-time role, of ~20 hours per week. For the right person, this role could increase up to 40 hours per week (full-time).

You’ll be required to work at least 3-4 hours overlapping with Alberta Mountain Time within the 9 AM - 5 PM window.

To excel in this role, you will need to:

  • Be fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Have 3+ years of experience working with WordPress (both building new and maintaining existing sites)
  • Be proficient with PHP, HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Understand and be able to use SCSS or SASS independently
  • Be very comfortable working with Custom Post Types (CPT) and Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)
  • Have extensive experience with local development using GIT, GitHub, and Gulp (CI/CD Pipeline)
  • Have experience working with and implementing Woocommerce

Bonus Points if you have:

  • Experience with the FacetWP plugin
  • Extensive experience with complex WooCommerce features and configurations
  • Experience with Teamwork.com project management & Slack
  • $20-$30 USD per hour**
  • Fully Remote & flexible working hours as long as commitments are honoured and communication abundant
  • Be part of the team, project meetings, fun Slack channels, and more
  • Potential for this to become a full-time position for the right candidate

*Please note that this is a gross salary and that you are responsible for any tax-related procedures in your country of residence. We kindly ask you to apply only if you are happy to work remotely as an independent contractor.

** Our preferred method of payment is to bring you into Upwork. Upwork Fee information.

This position will be closed as soon as we find the perfect match. So, make sure to read the description carefully, apply promptly, and take your time to submit a high-quality application that stands out.

Please expect the hiring process to include:

  • Filling in the application form once you click “Apply”
    • Please ensure to include links to your portfolio & Github
    • Upload your CV
  • Being invited to record and submit a short video to introduce yourself
  • If shortlisted, video interview with the Dev Team Lead, Project Lead & Director of Operations, Finance & HR

Applications will only be accepted through JobRack. DO NOT reach out to Reaction directly.

– Only candidates from Eastern Europe are eligible to apply –
