Web Designer - Testpad [CLOSED]

Part Time 2000.00 - 5000.00 USD Type: Monthly

This is a chance to be one of the first hires in an exciting startup. But not just any startup; a startup that is already profitable, is entirely bootstrapped (no VCs to keep happy), and with huge potential for growth.

Testpad is a SaaS tool for managing test plans. It’s for dev and test teams who are in a mess with spreadsheets, have hunted for a better solution, and before Testpad, gave up as everything else on the market is heavyweight traditional “test case management”. Testpad’s customers love how straightforward it is and regularly provide feedback saying what a joy it is to use.

Testpad has been built and run by Stefan Butlin, who has been working solo on Testpad since November 2010, steadily growing the feature set and user base, to the point that it’s now time to hire a small team of awesome people and accelerate the growth of this unique product (and while having a lot of fun in the process).

Testpad is looking for a top-end creative Web & UI Designer to be responsible for the visual quality of everything that Testpad puts out.

As the Web Designer, your role will be central to the team and heavily involved in every project. You will be responsible for the high quality of Testpad’s visual identity, from the branding of the website to the UI of the product itself, and everything else in between including email templates, videos, video thumbnails, social media cards, blog post illustrations, and so on.

In your first weeks with Testpad, you can expect to work with the team to complete the work-in-progress branding update to the marketing website, implementing and evolving the new design language, adding your own flair, and preparing it for publication.

Beyond this, the direction the branding and design language takes will be in your hands as Testpad looks to keep the design fresh from year to year. Perhaps it’s time to include micro-animations, introduce illustrations, add a dark mode to the UI… you help decide.

The role will also include collaborating with developers, the founder and the customer support team, as well as establishing and maintaining the brand design guidelines document.

To excel as Testpad’s Web Designer, you will not only be an awesome design talent, but you will have the intelligence and perspective to talk about design, able to communicate and explain subtleties in concepts, taste and aesthetics. You are likely to be someone who is always spotting and sharing examples of great design, logging them away, and with the ability to draw inspiration from them in your own work.

You will be someone who is very comfortable contributing wherever required as a key member of a small team. This might well go beyond pure design work, such as helping with the page map of the marketing website and what to put on which pages and iterating this over time.

In more detail then, to be a great designer for Testpad, you must have

  • excellent graphic design skills
  • experience with designing logos and websites of digital products
  • experience with typography, font choices and text layout
  • an excellent portfolio of 5+ websites showing interesting and diverse examples of strong and bold styles
  • the creative imagination to generate multiple concepts for a given project
  • a sharp eye for visual detail, such as whitespace, typography, and image quality
  • experience working with teams and collaborating on designs
  • great spoken English and excellent communication skills; specifically, the ability to communicate and explain design decisions
  • experience working with Macs

In addition, it would be helpful if you also have:

  • animation/motion design experience
  • video editing skills/experience
  • experience with accessibility considerations
  • UX experience/awareness
  • experience designing for a SaaS product
  • A part-time role, 3days (~24hrs) per week, paying $2000-$5000* per month depending on talent and experience
  • Flexible working hours
  • 5 weeks of paid holidays
  • Opportunities for salary increases as experience and contribution grows

* Please note that this is a gross salary and that you are responsible for any tax-related procedures in your country of residence. We kindly ask you to apply only if you are happy to work remotely as an independent contractor.

This position will be closed as soon as we find the perfect match. Please make sure to read the description carefully and take your time to submit a high-quality application that stands out.

If you apply, we’ll respond promptly and keep you updated throughout the process.

To apply for this role, please click “Apply” and fill in the application form.

As part of the hiring process, please then expect the process to include:

  • being invited to record a short video to introduce yourself
  • attending video interviews where you will have the opportunity to talk more about your previous experience and the new role
  • and completing test tasks, if short-listed
