Software Developer – Manchester

Would you like to join our software development team in Manchester solving real world problems in the built environment?

Project examples include:

  • Building insight tools that help City Mayors deal with complex resilience problems in their cities.
  • Working with engineers building tools that interface with IOT solutions so that tenants can interact with Smart Buildings.
  • Working with our environmental and transport consultants helping to design analytics dashboard to minimise the impacts of new transport schemes.



The Role

We are looking for an experienced software developer with a wide range of knowledge and experience of producing software solutions within a dynamic consultancy environment across the development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, an excellent problem solver, and a fast self-learner able to adapt to new technologies and platforms. The candidate should have experience of working within an agile development environment, and be comfortable with working to deadlines and budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities

• Development of innovative software solutions to support commercial projects
• Work with internal technical and domain experts to design and implement software solutions
• Develop and support legacy projects and tools
• Support and mentor junior developers
• Work with project teams to understand requirements and design solutions, identify new opportunities, and support project delivery
• Produce costed bids and proposals for new work and work closely with clients and project teams to develop opportunities
• Provide input on technical reports and systems design specifications for a wide range of projects
• Presentation and documentation of solutions to non-technical audiences

We help clients to understand and leverage their data through the production of innovative solutions including web and mobile applications, data visualisations, data analytics platforms, dashboards, and multimedia solutions. Skills/Experience required for the role

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science or other related discipline
• Typically, more than 3 years’ development experience
• Web based technology experience, e.g. javascript/node.js/html/css/php/asp.net
• Angular experience
• Development and support of relational databases platforms (SQL) and/or NoSQL technologies
• Agile Development methodologies
• A keen interest in the use of digital technologies and their application within the built environment
• Ability to communicate complex technical ideas to a non-technical audience


Desirable Skills

• Strong in one or more of C++/Java/C#.net/vb.net/Python
• Use of Kanban and project tracking software like JIRA or Trello
• Full stack application development
• Test driven development
