Senior TypeScript Backend Developer

Scale Leap is hiring a Senior TypeScript Software Developer to work on open source modules and closed source production software.

This is a 100% remote position.

About the Job

You'll work on developing open source modules for various Amazon APIs that are fully typed to help improve the developer experience and productivity inside the organization.

You will help to develop internal tooling and systems to help with operations and infrastructure.

A large portion of work is on production, closed source code that will be the foundation of the business for the future.

The focus is on building quality, long-lasting applications that have clean architecture and scale well.

You will be working closely with the technical founder on various projects.

Here are some real examples of the work we've done that might help you to get a better idea of what this job entails:

  • Creating a fully typed, universal JavaScript (TypeScript) module that wraps Amazon Advertising API (WIP).

  • Creating a web-based application that spans all Amazon Marketplaces and gathers data about products being sold.

  • Creating a web-based dashboard for reporting of sales data.

  • Monitoring and automation of advertising campaigns.

About You

We're looking for an experienced candidate who is ready for a similar breadth and depth of work. That's a lot of different areas of responsibility! You won't be able to answer every question immediately or know how all the systems work on day one, and we don't expect you to. Solid fundamentals with software development, systems, troubleshooting, and teamwork pave the way.

We are looking for someone who is an autonomous generalist. You can work alone and don't need a lot of guidance.

You might have a CS degree. You might not. That's not what we're looking for. We care about what you can do and how you do it, not about how you got here.

Because this is a remote position, your written communication in English is essential. You should be able to express your thoughts in writing concisely and to the point. Providing visual aids where necessary, such as screenshots and video walkthroughs.

About Your Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript.

  • Striving to write testable, easy to understand code.

  • Solid experience with PostgreSQL databases. You know the intricacies of scaling, complex queries, and big data.

  • You have worked in high load environments.

  • You are intimately familiar with queueing and messaging systems (AMQP, NATS, Redis).

  • GraphQL is your primary choice when building APIs.

  • You love ESLint and use it on every project.

How to Apply

Please send an application that speaks directly to this position. There are no right answers or cookie-cutter expectations. Show us your role in Scale Leap's future and Scale Leap's role in yours. Address some of the work we do. Give it a deep think and take this at your speed. We're giving you our full attention.

Send in your application here. We're accepting applications until 2019-09-01 00:00:00 UTC. There is no benefit to filing early or writing a novel. Keep it sharp, short, and get across what matters to you.

Next: We expect to take two weeks to review all applications. You'll hear from us by September 15th about advancement to a written code review. You'll submit some code you're proud of, review it, and tell its story. Then on to an interview.

Our interviews are one hour, all remote, on your schedule. We'll talk through some of your code and some of ours. No gotchas, brainteasers, or whiteboard coding.
