Circuit Builder/Electronics Engineer [CLOSED]

Full Time Negotiable

Wordpress English - writing

Hey there, I'm Oyvind! I'm the founder of Ohmify.

Ohmify is a friendly and helpful online community where our members learn how to make electronic gadgets from scratch. Our members often have little to no experience with electronics, so we focus on using simple language and explanations that even kids can understand. Our members range from 10 to 85 years old. And they are artists, teachers, hobbyists, entrepreneurs, retirees, musicians, and more.

I'm also the author of several books, such as Electronics For Kids, and simplifying electronics so that the whole world can learn it is something I'm passionate about!

We are a tiny company with only two fixed members at the moment: Matthew, based out of the US. And me, Oyvind, based out of Norway (but with nomadic tendencies).

About the position:

I'm currently looking for a smart, responsible, and motivated person to join our team. Your main responsibility will be to build different electronic circuits and projects while documenting how you do it so that our members can easily replicate it.

The type of projects you'll be doing will vary a lot. It could be a simple blinking light. It could be a guitar pedal, an audio amplifier, or an analog synthesizer. Or it could be more creative projects such as an automatic cat feeder or a sumo robot.

But don't worry if your circuit design skills are a bit rusty - you don't have to design these projects from scratch. In most cases, you'll get a schematic diagram and all you have to do is order the components and build the project as shown in the schematic. Maybe with some troubleshooting along the way. But we're absolutely all ears to your own designs and ideas if things pop up along the way!

In addition to building projects, you get to help the members in the forum with their projects and questions as they learn and progress.

This is a fully remote position where you'll have the freedom to decide your own working hours. Ideally, we're looking for someone who can work full-time (40 hours per week), but we're willing to consider a part-time position for the correct candidate.

You should have:

  • Good knowledge of electronic circuits theory
  • Experience building circuits from schematics (on prototyping boards)
  • Knowledge about PCB Design (training in KiCad will be provided)
  • Fluent English (written)
  • Experience with Arduino and/or Raspberry Pi is a plus
  • Experience with microcontrollers is a plus
  • Experience with photography is a plus

Your main tasks will be:

  • Build projects while documenting the process (using photos and short video clips)
  • Help members with electronics questions on the forum
  • Simple circuit design

You are a perfect fit for the company if you are:

  • Authentically interested in this type of work
  • Honest
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to work remotely
  • A problem solver
  • Fluency in spoken English
  • Can easily write error-free American English
  • Trustworthy - you can be trusted with passwords and confidential information
  • Dependable - you show up on time. And you deliver on time - or communicate it clearly when you need more time

What's in it for you?

  • The chance to be part of a friendly team that's producing great results while having fun.
  • Starting salary $1500-$2000 per month, depending on your experience
  • The chance to grow your role into a senior position as the company grows.
  • Team-building trips with the team (The first one sometime after the COVID situation is under control)

Interested?

If you think this job is for you, send me a message and include what background and experience you have that can be beneficial in this position.

Also:

  • In your application, please attach your CV and links to any relevant work you think we should see
  • Do you have any equipment for building electronics and taking photos/videos? Let us know your current setup.
  • Tell us where you're located, your salary expectation, and whether you are seeking full or part-time work
  • Let us know your email address so we can contact you. :)

If selected for an interview, Matthew or I will be in touch. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for applying!

PS! Motivation and interest can make up for lacking skills, so if you would love this position, then you should apply.
