BuildXDesign has partnered with a home renovations marketplace platform where its mission is to make home renovations simple, transparent and efficient for everyone. They’re building tools to provide homeowners with transparency throughout the entire renovation process while empowering them to make educated decisions every step of the way. BuildXDesign also helps general contractors be more efficient beyond the construction site by semi-automating their back office with a custom platform solution.

As one of their preferred partners in Architectural Design, BuildXDesign is looking to hire an Architectural Designer to support their partner’s growing design/renovation needs as they expand into the Toronto market!

This is a dynamic and exciting role as you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects! As the Architectural Designer, you’ll be responsible for designing multiple home renovation projects in the Greater Toronto Area, ranging in project scale from simple bathroom renovations to full home extensions and new builds. You will be responsible for generating as-built floor plans, new floor plans and 3D visualizations for the schematic design and detailed drawings for building permits and construction.

In addition, you may be involved with interior design services including the creation of mood boards, material selections, detailed plans and elevations, and the creation of finish schedules. As the business grows, you will be responsible for developing and implementing new operational processes to improve overall team efficiency.

More specifically, within this role, you will:

  • Provide architectural design services for residential renovation projects:
    • Collect homeowner requirements and develop a project program
    • Generate as-built drawings based on the site measurements
    • Create new floor plans and 3D conceptualizations to communicate the proposed design
    • Create presentations/ design packages to present design proposals to clients
    • Develop detailed drawings for building permit and construction, including a variety of construction details: exterior, interior, millwork details, etc
    • Create interior design packages - mood/material boards, detailed finish plans and elevations, finish schedules
  • Participate in developing and implementing strategies to optimize operational processes and increase efficiencies

In your first days at BuildXDesign, you will have an opportunity to review the ongoing projects, after which you will be assigned your own first project and start doing AutoCAD drafting work. Although support & training will be organised for you when you join the team, BuildXDesign counts on your solid skills and knowledge of each of the relevant programmes & familiarity with working on projects in an architectural firm. You should be capable of working on small projects independently & carrying them out successfully.

In order to excel as BuildXDesigns next Architectural Designer, you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/University Diploma in Architecture, or related field
  • 3 to 6 years of experience as an architectural designer/technologist
  • Working experience at an architecture firm or an interior design firm
  • Personal or professional experience in home renovation
  • Experience in creating floor plans, elevations, construction details as part of Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction
  • Working knowledge of Autocad, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign
  • Experience working with a rendering engine such as Enscape, Vray, Lumion, etc.
  • Proven conceptual and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to take initiative & independently complete projects assigned to you
  • Excellent adaptation skills and willingness to learn
  • Excellent work ethic and eagerness to contribute to the company growth
  • Eagerness to work on a variety of different design tasks

Brownie points for:

  • Experience with taking a project from beginning to end i.e. from ideation to full construction
  • Residential experience in Ontario, Canada
